Entries are invited from passionate Tourism and Hospitality professionals and work placement students who have demonstrated a Giant Spirit in their workplace, tourism or community.
Accommodation Categories
Entries are invited from accommodation providers who are members of Tourism NI’s Quality Assurance Scheme or an affiliate programme. Businesses must be in operation for a minimum of 12 months as at 31 st May 2022.
Two questions to answer:
Question 1 “In no more than 500 words please tell us what you did to meet the challenges and demands over the last two years in one or more of the following areas: Your Business, Your Visitor, Your Team, Your Community or Yourself”
Question 2 “In no more than 500 words please provide details / evidence of the positive impact and outputs your initiative, innovation, business or project delivered”
Categories to enter include:
Best Hotel
for:
- Micro/Small businesses with up to 15 employees
- AND
- Medium/Large businesses with over 15 employees
Best B&B / Guest House
for:
- Micro/Small businesses with up to 15 employees
- AND
- Medium/Large businesses with over 15 employees
Best Self-Catering
for:
- Micro/Small businesses with up to 15 employees
- AND
- Medium/Large businesses with over 15 employees
Experience Categories

for:

Innovation
Entries are invited from passionate Tourism and Hospitality Business owners / proprietors, and innovative tourism businesses.

NI’s Most Innovative Business (Open to All)
This can be expressed as innovation in its broadest sense- Digital, Sustainable/Regenerative, doing something new or working in new collaborative ways.
To increase flexibility and incentive to enter , two awards will be presented in this category
for:
- Micro/Small businesses with up to 15 employees
- AND
- Medium/Large businesses with over 15 employees
Individual
Entries are invited from passionate Tourism and Hospitality professionals and work placement students who have demonstrated a Giant Spirit in their workplace, tourism or community.
NI’s Most Promising Student
This is a new category – open to any tourism or hospitality business with an individual on student placement or work experience undertaken through further/higher education establishments
Responses to the question should focus on the individual’s achievements within the judging period of 1 st April 2020 – 31 st May 2022.
The individual should be nominated/entered by their host employer
This will be a joint award presented to the winning student and employer.
One question to answer: “Please outline in no more than 1000 words how your student contributed to your business and why you feel they deserve this award based on the Giant Spirit Brand Values and behaviours.”
Local Spirit Award
This category is designed for an individual tourism and hospitality professional in Northern Ireland. Entries can be self-nominated or nominated by Industry, Stakeholders and Councils.
Responses to the question should focus on individual achievements within the qualifying period and the impact in their local community or tourism industry as a whole.
Finalists will be selected for video testimonial and on location filming during September 2022.
One question to answer: “Please outline in no more than 1000 words, how the nominated individual has made a difference to Tourism and Community since 1st April 2020 until 31st May 2022. Entries should demonstrate achievements and impact from the individual which are aligned to the Giant Spirit Brand Values and behaviours”
